| The building of Reginald’s Tower in 1003 AD to defend Viking longships marked the founding of Vadrafjord. Although the longships are long gone, the tower still stands and today overlooks massive freighters in modern Waterford’s bustling harbour. Waterford’s location and proximity to natural ports has made the city important, both militarily and commercially, and it has prevailed over sieges by Strongbow and Cromwell. Today the city is the centre of shopping and entertainment for the southeast. |
