| Adored by W.B.Keats and romanticised in his writings, the stormy coastal town is set in the picturesque windswept County Sligo. With a population of 18,000, Sligo is a busy commercial, industrial and market centre, and with its inescapable ties to the poet is inundated by tourists wanting to tread where he once strolled.

Sligo Abbey – Standing since the 13th century the Dominican friary is remarkably preserved and the new stairway opens up the upper floors to the curious.
St John’s Church – The oldest church in Sligo dates back to the 17th century and is open to the public from Monday to Saturday.
Lough Gill – Close by in Lough Gill is the island of Yeats’s ‘The Lake Isle of Innisfree’, and Dooney Rock of ‘Fiddler of Dooney’ fame.
Dromahair – Also in Lough Gill, lays Dromahair and the Creevelea Abbey, founded in 1508, closed down by Cromwell in 1650, and a burial site since 1721.
Drumcliff Churchyard – Yeats died in France in 1939 and after WWII, his body was shipped back to Ireland and his final resting place in Drumcliff Churchyard.
